Marino Cavalli was a 16th-century Venetian diplomat. He served as an ambassador to the Holy Roman Emperor, in France (1543), in Constantinople (1560), and in Rome (1566). He periodically submitted reports (relazioni) concerning his diplomatic activities to the Venetian Senate, which constitute a major historical source today. He left an interesting account regarding the journey of Levan I Dadiani, Prince of Odishi, to Constantinople (circa 1557), who requested assistance from the Sultan against a coalition formed by King George of Imereti and George Gurieli. The Sultan presented him with nine ships, provided auxiliary troops, and sent him back.
