Sergo Amaghlobeli (b. July 11, 1898, village Amaghleba, modern Vani Municipality – d. February 13, 1938) was a theatre worker, critic, playwright.
In 1920–1924, he studied at the Faculties of Law and Economics of Tbilisi State University (TSU). At the same time, he worked for the newspaper “Tribuna”. In 1924–1928, he delivered lectures at TSU and Tbilisi State Conservatoire. In 1925, he was the director of the Shota Rustaveli Theatre in Tbilisi, in 1926–1927 — the director of the Georgian Film Studio. In 1928–1936, Amaghlobeli led various creative institutions in Moscow. In 1928–1937, critical and theoretical letters about theatre and film were systematically published by Amaghlobeli in Moscow magazines and newspapers. He wrote several plays in Russian: Good Life (1934, staged by the Second Moscow Art Theatre), My Country and others. Amaghlobeli's important works include: Problems of Theatre and Film (1928); Georgian Theatre (1930); The Dramaturgy of Great Battles (1933); Little Theatre (1935; all in Russian, Moscow). He was the victim of Soviet repressions.
