Revaz Amashukeli (b. June 24, 1936, Tbilisi – d. January 10, 2022, Tbilisi) was a poet.
He graduated from the Faculty of Philology at Tbilisi State University (1960). He worked in the magazines — “Tsiskari”, “Mnatobi”, “Literaturnaya Gruziya”. He was the secretary of the Union of Writers of Georgia (1986), the first deputy chairman of the Rustaveli Society (1988–1989. III), the deputy minister of culture of Georgia since 1992.
Amashukeli's poems have been published since 1957. He is the author of many poetry collections (Poems, 1964; April, 1967; Poems, 1970; Poems, 1974, The Moon of Zedazeni, To You, both in 1980; To You Again, 1987; November, 1990, Poems, 2001). The true artistic merits of these collections are defined by sophisticated, unrhymed verses and traditional rhymed verses distinguished by classical simplicity. The patriotic motif is manifested in Amashukeli's poems —November, Pirosmani, To You, The Cemetery of the Mamluks, Oriental Image and others. He used to turn the words into a meditative form, created a mood in the form of a lyrical monologue. His expressions of the mysteries of the world was also peculiar and was sometimes conveyed in symbolic and allegorical forms.
Amashukeli was a prominent public figure. He actively participated in everyday social life.
He was the winner of the Galaktion Tabidze Prize in (1982), Honorary Citizen of Tbilisi (2003). He received state awards.
