The New Georgian Chronicles is Vakhtang VI's edition of The Georgian Chronicles (Kartlis Tskhovreba) (1st quarter of 18th century). The special commission appointed and chaired by the King Vakhtang VI made many editorial changes in the The Georgian Chronicles, edited and corrected the text distorted by scribes over the centuries; He divided the text into sections and titled them according to the periods of reign of the kings; He included a whole series of special appendixes (mainly from church history and chronological references) and enriched it with a lot of new information. Most importantly, the mentioned Commission studied the history of Georgia of the 14th–17th centuries and included it in the The Georgian Chronicles. That is why the authors of the 18th century called the edition of Vakhtang VI The New Georgian Chronicles, as opposed to the The Georgian Chronicles, which was prepared and revised in the era before Vakhtang VI.
