Akaki Bakradze (b. March 29, 1928, Tbilisi — d. December 5, 1999, Tbilisi) was a literary critic, publicist, public figure.
He graduated from the Faculty of History of Tbilisi State University (1953). He worked first as an editor, later as a senior editor (1955-1960, 1961) of the screenplay department, and then as an editor-in-chief of the editorial department (1964-68) of the Georgian Film Studio.
He was the director of Rustaveli Theatre (1973-1980), chief editor of the Georgian Film Commission (1986-1988), artistic director of Marjanishvili Theatre (1988-1989). His first review on the film Our Yard (1957) was published in the magazine “Tsiskari”. In 1966, he published his first books: Cinematic Studies and Critical Letters.
Bakradze was one of the first to study the process of mythologizing in modern Georgian literature in his book Mythological Engadi (1969); In the book Ilia Chavchavadze (1984), he analyzed the issues of Ilia Chavchavadze's creativity, worldview and tragic end from a new angle. His other books include: Thought and Judgment (1972), Forever and Everywhere I’m with You, Georgia (1978), Growth of the Soul (1986), Cinema. Theatre (1989), Niko Nikoladze (1989), Faith (1990), Taming Literature (1990), Ilia and Akaki (1993), Discarded Road (1995).
In 1989, he was elected as the President of Rustaveli Society of Georgia (later – Honorary President). He was People's Deputy of the USSR, a member of the Council of Nationalities of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR (1989–91), member of Gelati Academy of Sciences (1995).
