Lansere Yevgeny (1875–1946), Russian graphic artist and painter. He was born in Pavlovsk (suburb of St. Petersburg). He studied in Petersburg (1892-1895) and Paris (1895-1898). He was professor at the Moscow Institute of Architecture and All Russian Academy of Art in Leningrad (1934-1934). In 1920 – 1934 he lived in Tbilisi. He contributed to educating several generations of Georgian painters. In 1922 – 1934 he was employed as a professor of the Tbilisi Academy of Arts; as of 1927 – he filled the position of the Dean of the Department of Painting at the same Academy. Lansere participated in the expeditions to Mtskheta, Davitgareja and Shiomgvime; he undertook trips to Ajara and Svaneti. In connection with the jubilee of Shota Rustaveli, in 1937, he drew the sketches of old Georgian architectural monuments. The following works of Lansere deserve special attention: Tbilisi. Metekhi; Kutaisi. Gelati (both – 1937); Mtskheta. Svetitskhoveli; Svaneti. Ushguli; Young Svanetian; Svaneti. The Zhibiani village (all 1929 – 1930); Tbilisi. Old District; Tbilisi. Embankment ( both – 1932); sketches of the scenery for W. Shakespeare’s Macbeth staged at the K. Marjanishvili Theater. Most of Y. Lansere’s works are preserved at the National Museum of Georgia, the museum of K. Marjanishvili Theater and private collections.
Y. Lansere died in Moscow.
