Byus Eugene

Eugene Byus (b. June 1, 1885, Yuryev (present-day Tartu) – d. June 15, 1969, Tbilisi) was a geophysicist, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences (1963), Professor (1965), Honored Science Worker of Georgia (1946).

In 1911, he graduated from the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics of the University of Yuryev and then he worked at the Astronomical Observatory there. Byus is one of the organizers of the modern seismic service in the South Caucasus. In 1912–1920, he was the head of the Baku Seismic Station, in 1921–1923 – the head of the Tbilisi Seismic Station. From 1933, he worked at the Institute of Geophysics of the Georgian Academy of Sciences.

His main works are focused on issues of seismicity in the territory of the South Caucasus.

He received state awards.
