Burakovski Vladimir

Vladimir Burakovski (July 20, 1922, Tbilisi – September 22, 1994, Moscow) was a cardiovascular surgeon, a Doctor of Medical Sciences (1962), a professor (1965) and a full member of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences (1978).

He graduated from Tbilisi Medical Institute in 1964. From 1960 to 1966, he was the head of the congenital defects department at the A. Bakulev Institute of Cardiovascular Surgery in Moscow, and from 1966 onwards, he served as the director of the same institute.

Burakovski studied issues related to cardiovascular surgery, the surgery of congenital heart defects, aortic valve defects, and others.

He won the State Prize of the USSR in 1973 and the Lenin Prize in 1976.

Burakovski was the head of the Cardiovascular Surgery Problem Commission, a member of the medical societies of Hungary, Bulgaria, Cuba, Czechoslovakia, and the USA, and others.

He was an honorary citizen of Tbilisi and a Hero of Socialist Labor (1982).
