Bghazhba Khukhuti (b. October 15, 1914, village Gupi, present-day Ochamchire Municipality – d. December 12, 2000) is an Abkhazian writer, critic, linguist, Doctor of Philological Sciences (1969), Honored Worker of Science of Abkhazia, winner of the D. Gulia Prize (1986). At various times, he was the editor of the newspaper “Apsny”, chairman of the Abkhazian Writers' Union, deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the Georgian Soviet Socialist Republic, director of the D. Gulia Institute of Abkhazian Language, Literature and History of the Georgian Academy of Sciences, head of the Literature and Folklore Department of the same institute. Starting from 1932, he published his research on the Abkhazian language, literature, folklore, and the ties between Abkhazian and Georgian cultures. Bghazhba's main works include: The Bzyb Dialect of the Abkhazian Language (1964), From the History of Abkhazian Writing (1967), etc. He compiled and published Abkhazian Fairy Tales (Volume 1) in 1940 with K. Shakrili. Bghazhba is the author of several school textbooks.
