J. Graičiūnas

Jonas Graičiūnas (b. June 10, 1903, Tbilisi – d. August 1, 1994, Vilnius) was a Lithuanian poet and translator. He was born into a family of a military engineer. He spent his childhood in Tbilisi and started publishing his works in 1923.

Inspired by his love for Tbilisi, the poet dedicated a number of poems to Georgia (To Tbilisi, To Georgia, etc.). He worked for many years on the translation of The Knight in the Panther's Skin, which he considered his “duty to his second homeland — Georgia”. The poem was published in 1971 (second edition in 1984, with a preface by E. Mieželaičiu). He also translated the poems of Vazha-Pshavela.
