Gudauta

Gudauta, a town (since 1926) in western Georgia (in the region of Abkhazia), is the administrative center of Gudauta Municipality. It is located on the Black Sea coastal plain, at the mouth of the Gudou River. Elevation: 10 meters above sea level. It lies 43 km from Sukhumi and 487 km from Tbilisi. Population: 14,900 (as of 1989).

Gudauta is a seaside climatic resort. The climate is humid subtropical with mild winters and hot summers. The average annual temperature is 14.3°C; the average in January is 5.6°C, and in July 23.0°C. The absolute minimum is –13°C and the absolute maximum 41°C. Annual precipitation is 1,550 mm. Relative humidity is 75%. The resort season lasts year-round.

As of 1991, Gudauta had a tea factory, a tobacco fermentation plant, wine-making enterprises, car repair workshops, small manufacturing facilities (producing food products and consumer goods), kindergartens, general education schools, a library, a cultural center, a summer theater, a cinema, and a hospital.

Currently, it is located on an occupied territory.
