V. Gulisashvili 

Vasil Gulisashvili (b. May 6, 1903, Tbilisi – d. October 19, 1979, Tbilisi) was a forester and ecologist, full member of the Georgian Academy of Sciences (1946), Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, professor (1935), Honored Worker of Sciences of Georgia (1955). He graduated from the Leningrad Forestry and Technical Academy (present-day Saint Petersburg State Forestry University), faculties of Forestry (1926) and Chemical Technology (1931). In 1927, he started working at the Leningrad Forestry and Technical Academy. In 1931, Gulisashvili returned to Georgia and worked at the Tbilisi Forestry and Technical Institute as the head of the Department of General Forestry. In 1932–1944, he held various responsible positions. In 1945–1979, he headed the Tbilisi Institute of Forestry.

Gulisashvili's scientific works cover the biology, ecology and ecological geography of woody plant species, nature protection and other issues. He studied the physical properties of forest soil and their variability. Gulisashvili was the Chairman of the Commission of Nature Protection of the Georgian Academy of Sciences and the Deputy Chairman of the Georgian Society for Nature Conservation. In 1974, he was awarded the State Prize of Georgia.

He received state awards.
