Gulripshi (Kvemogulripshi until 1975) is an urban settlement in Western Georgia (Abkhazia), the center of Gulripshi Municipality. It is located in the Samurzakano lowland, 20 m above sea level, 13 km from Sokhumi, 431 km from Tbilisi. The population of Gulripshi is 10 700 (1989).
Gulripshi is a seaside climatic resort. It has a humid subtropical climate, warm winters and hot summers. The average annual temperature is 14.5ºС, the average January temperature is 6.2ºС, July – 22.9ºС; absolute minimum – 12ºС, absolute maximum – 41ºС. Sea breezes soften the summer heat. Precipitation – 1410 mm per year. Relative humidity – 72%. Duration of sunlight – 2100 hours per year. Treatment – climatotherapy. Medical indication: various forms of pulmonary tuberculosis.
In 1991, Gulripshi had kindergartens, secondary general education and music schools, the Sokhumi Experimental Station of Subtropical Cultures, the Abkhazian Plant Protection Experimental Station and others.
Currently, Gulripshi is in the occupied territory.
