Tamar Gverdtsiteli (b. January 16, 1962, Tbilisi) is a singer, Honored Artist of Georgia (1989) and People's Artist of Russia (2004).
In 1984, she graduated from the V. Sarajishvili Tbilisi State Conservatoire (N. Gachechiladze's piano class), in 1990 – from the Faculty of the Piano Studies of the same conservatoire (A. Shaverzashvili's class). In 1971-1979, she was a soloist of the children's vocal-instrumental ensemble “Mziuri” at the National Youth and Children's Palace, in 1984-1995 – a soloist of the Georgian TV and Radio Symphony Orchestra. As a singer, she achieved her first success and won awards at the Bichvinta Republican (“Bichvinta-77”) and All-Union Festivals (Dnipropetrovsk, 1981). She is the winner of the international music festivals “Sochi-81”, “Schlager-Festival” (Dresden, 1982) and “The Golden Orpheus '88” (Bulgaria, 1st prize). She gives concerts in many countries of the world with her ensemble “Music”. In 1991, Gverdtsiteli was invited to Paris. There she met Michel Legrand and Jean Dréjac and signed her first contract with Legrand. Soon, her first successful concert was held at the Paris concert venue “Olympia”. Gverdtsiteli also successfully performed the role of Carmen in Georges Bizet's opera Carmen on the stage of the Dnipropetrovsk Opera with the world-famous tenor V. Grishko. Gverdtsiteli has appeared in the films “Mziuri” (TV movie, 1973), “Stalin's Wife” (2006), “Don Quixote in Love” (2008) and others. She worked at the Russian Academy Theater on the musical Man of La Mancha with V. Zeldin. She actively organizes tours around the world and performs her own songs, as well as songs by Georgian and foreign composers. She has released albums: Confession (1991), 7 Ballads and others. Gverdtsiteli has received the following titles and awards: Order of Honor of Georgia (1998), People's Artist of Ingushetia (2004), Person of the Year for her contribution to culture and art (2008), Einstein Prize (2005), The Best of the Best (2006), Gold Star (2006), Order of Peace (2006), 1st degree Order of Saint Catherine the Great Martyr (2007), 1st degree Order of Diaghilev (2007), Defenders of the World (2008) and others. She often gives concerts in Georgia. The Gverdtsitseli Star was unveiled in front of the Tbilisi Concert Hall (2013).
