Gurgulia Inola

Inola Gurgulia (b. July 25, 1929, Tbilisi – d. November 24, 1977, Tbilisi) was a singer, philologist, teacher.

In 1952, she graduated from Ilia Chavchavadze Pedagogical Institute of Foreign Languages (present day Ilia State University), and from then onwards she continued her teaching career there. At the institute, she founded the women's vocal-instrumental trio “Samaia” with Giuli Darakhvelidze and Medea Sikharulidze. They performed songs written by Gurgulia (often based on her own poems). The following songs are particularly outstanding: I Want to Smile, Without You, Stay with Me, Don’t Tell Me Anything, Why Are You Avoiding My Eyes, I Am Thankful; Children's songs — Daisy, Carousel, Swing, etc.

In 1986, Gurgulia's collection of poems and translations I Want to Smile was published and it included translations of works by Lord Byron, W. Scott, P. B. Shelley, T. Moore, E. Poe, H. W. Longfellow, R. Kipling and others. Gurgulia sang in the films: First Day - Last Day, Mother's Hand, Record. The CD ...There Was a Song at First was released in 1999, and the sheet music collections of songs My Songs were published in 2004, 2009.
