Gustavo Alfredo De la Torre Botarro

Gustavo Alfredo De la Torre Botarro is a contemporary Chilean writer and public figure.

He authored essays on the history, culture, and literature of Georgia. In 1964, he published a complete prose translation of The Knight in the Panther’s Skin in Spanish language in Santiago de Chile. The translation is accompanied by an extensive essay in which the author, as in his other works, develops the idea that the poem is rooted in Georgia’s rich ancient culture and expresses national, state, and socio-political ideals. His articles have contributed to the popularization of Georgian culture in Spanish-speaking countries.

In 1966, a celebration marking the 800th anniversary of Shota Rustaveli was held in Santiago, where De la Torre Botarro delivered a presentation.
