Doijashvili Manana

Manana Doijashvili (b. 5 November 1947, Tbilisi) is a renowned pianist, scholar and People’s Artist of Georgia (1989). She is a winner of the Z. Paliashvili Prize (2003) as well as multiple international competitions, including the George Enescu International Competition (Bucharest, 1970), the B. Smetana International Competition (Hradec Králové, 1974), and the First International Competition in Australia (Sydney, 1977). She served as Rector of the Tbilisi State Conservatory from 2000 to 2011.

In 1971, she graduated from the Tbilisi Vano Sarajishvili State Conservatory under Prof. T. Amirejibi, and in 1973 completed postgraduate studies under his guidance. From that year onward, she joined the Conservatory as a faculty member (appointed professor in 1994). Since 1965, she has also been a soloist with the Georgian State Philharmonic.

Doijashvili’s performances are distinguished by their scale, refined musical taste, and artistic temperament. She was the first to perform many of the works by Georgian composers (including S. Nasidze’s Piano Concerto No. 3 and A. Balanchivadze’s Piano Sonata No. 2).

Since 1997, she has served as the artistic director of the Grand and Small Halls of the Tbilisi State Conservatory. She is also the founder and organizer of international competitions for performing musicians in Georgia (since 1997).

She was awarded the Presidential Order of Excellence in 2010.
