Ash Gobar

Ash Gobar (b. 1930, Poti) is an American philosopher of Georgian origin. He is Professor Emeritus at Transylvania University (Lexington, Kentucky), a full member of the Georgian Academy of Philosophical Sciences.

At the age of 8, he left his homeland with his parents, initially traveling through Europe and then settling in the United States, where he received a philosophical education. He earned his Ph.D. in 1959 at the University of Wisconsin and published research in the fields of philosophy of science. He collaborates with leading European and American philosophical journals.

He developed an original philosophical theory under the name “Dialectical Realism,” which is presented in detail in his monograph Philosophy as the Highest Enlightenment (1994). Ash Gobar is the author of numerous academic studies, including on Georgian philosophy, and maintains close relations with Georgian colleagues such as S. Avaliani and G. Tevzadze.

His articles are regularly published in the annual edition Philosophical Inquiries by the Georgian Academy of Philosophical Sciences. In 1992, he visited Tbilisi by invitation and delivered lectures at Tbilisi State University.
