Edzani (Barmaksiz) is a Mesolithic settlement, in the northern part of Tsalka. It was excavated in 1936 (B. Kuftin) and 1963–1964 (M. Gabunia). A variety of obsidian production tools were discovered — geometric microliths, arrowhead-type tools, many well-processed inserts, microlithic round scrapers, etc. The discovered material indicates high cultural level of the Edzani population. The discovery of deer, gazelle, onager, wild cow, pig and horse bones proves that in the Mesolithic era, a steppe and semi-steppe landscape prevailed in southeastern Georgia.
