Tvalchrelidze, Giorgi [27. XII. 1914 (9. I. 1915), Novocherkassk, Russian Federation – 3. XII. 1991, Tbilisi], geologist, a full member of the Georgian Academy of Sciences (1979), Doctor of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences (1959), Professor (1961), Merited Scientist of Georgia (1973).

In 1938, he graduated from the Faculty of Mining and Geology of the Georgian Industrial Institute. From 1946 to 1981, he worked at the A. Tvalchrelidze Caucasian Institute of Mineral Resources; from 1981 to 1988, he served as the Director of the A. Janelidze Geological Institute of the Georgian Academy of Sciences; and from 1988, he was an advisor to the directorate of the same institute.

Tvalchrelidze researched the geology of mineral resources and issues of metallogeny. In his works, he generalized the regularities of endogenous metallogeny and the distribution of mineral resources in Georgia, the Caucasus, and the countries across the entire Mediterranean belt.

He directed metallogenic research in the Caucasus; under his initiative and with his direct participation, metallogenic maps of the Caucasus, Crimea, the Carpathians, and the Balkans were compiled. He also taught at Tbilisi State University (TSU).

Tvalchrelidze served as Vice-President of the International Association on the Genesis of Ore Deposits (IAGOD), Chairman of the Caucasian Section of the Council on Ore Formation of the All-Union Academy, Chairman of the Caucasus-Crimea-Carpathian Petrographic Council, and Member of the All-Union Petrographic Committee. He was awarded the A. Janelidze Prize of the Georgian Academy of Sciences (1986) alongside various state awards.
