John Mtbevari

John Mtbevari, a 10th-century Georgian church figure, hymnographer, and translator.

As can be seen from the Gospel of Tbeti (995), he was bishop of Tbeti from 978, and in 995, he was appointed bishop of the Atskuri Diocese. Michael Modrekili's Iadgari (978–988) preserves John Mtbevari's translations of hymns by Greek authors of the 7th–9th centuries. The Georgian hymnographic term “mokazmuli” is associated with his name.
