Tarichisdze Ioane

Ioane Tarichisdze, a Georgian translator of the 11^th–12^th centuries. In Anton I's Tskobilsitkvaoba (18^th century), a two-stanza iambic poem is dedicated to him, which states that Ioane Tarichisdze “translated books”, “spread education” in Georgia.

According to a later inscription in one of the lists of The Georgian Chronicles, which belongs to Sulkhan-Saba Orbeliani, Ioane Tarichisdze worked abroad. He returned to Georgia around 1114 with Theophile Khutsezmonazoni and Arsen of Ikalto. K. Kekelidze considered Ioane Tarichisdze a Neoplatonist and attributed to him the translation of two works by Ammonius Hermiae, which other researchers (S. Gorgadze, I. Lolashvili) ascribe to Ioane Petritsi. It has been suggested that the writers of the Renaissance period may have confused Ioane Tarichisdze with Ioane Petritsi.
