Amashukeli Elguja (born 06.07.1941, Borjomi) is a goldsmith and sculptor.
He mainly works in the field of the applied arts. He graduated from the faculty of sculpture at Tbilisi State Academy of Art. Since 1974, he has been living and working in Paris. He is actively participating in French cultural life and is very popular. He received numerous French awards: Golden Oscar (1980), Palme d'Or (1982), and Grand Prize for the Masters of the Art (1987). He is a Chevalier of Ordre des Arts et des Letters (the Order of Arts and Letters). His personal exhibitions were held in many countries (France in 1975, 1981, 1982; West Germany in 1983; United States in 1986-87; United Kingdom in 1988). Artist’s works are exhibited in prominent museums in France, United States and West Germany. Notre-Dame de Paris has purchased three of his works – Baptismal Font, Easter candlestick and narrow-necked flagon (silver-plated copper). Amashukeli’s works are characterized by immaculate understanding of form and the ability to reveal and demonstrate the texture of the material (silver, copper, rhinestone, lapis lazuli, nacre, wood, etc). Amashukeli’s works (tableware, large wooden spoons, jewelry boxes, fibulas, candle holders, necklaces and bracelets) are created through the fusion of old and modern styles. His compositions are simple and monumental. The artist studied ancient Greek, Eastern, Byzantine and especially Georgian traditional art and, as a result, he creates forms that correspond to modern art.
His works are exhibited in the Vatican Museum, the Louvre, Notre Damme, Mandet Museum, etc. In 2022, he visited Georgia and met the Prime Minister.
