Iakob Alkhazishvili (b. January 1, 1826, Gori – November 3, 1896, Tbilisi) was an infantry general (1891).
In 1844, he graduated from the Second Cadet Corps of Saint Petersburg and was assigned to the Lifeguard regiment with the rank of Praporshchik (equivalent to warrant officer class 1 or sergeant major). He participated in almost all campaigns of the Russian army at that time. In 1873, he became the Major General and was appointed as the commander of the Caucasus Infantry Brigade. In 1877, Alkhazishvili defeated a large Ottoman landing troop, which threatened Western Georgia.
On June 15, he struck another blow at the retreating enemy near Ochamchire, and on August 20, he occupied Sokhumi through a battle. He participated in the battle of Alaji (Kars). During the siege of the Kars fortress by the Russian army, he stormed two forts and was one of the first to take the city with the Kutaisi infantry unit. He was awarded the rank of lieutenant general for his bravery in battle (1877). He then commanded the 41st Caucasian Infantry Division (1878), the Caucasian Grenadier Division (1883) and the 3rd Caucasian Army Corps (1885).
He was a member of the Russian Military Council from 1894 until his death.
