Buchaidze Kita

Kita Buachidze (b. September 21, 1914, Partskhnali, Shorapani, present-day Kharagauli Municipality – d. 2000, Tbilisi) was a playwright.

He graduated from the Faculty of Philology of Tbilisi State University (TSU) (1941). He first joined the Georgian writing scene in 1927. In 1931, his first play Spin the Ring was successfully staged at the Tbilisi Theatre of Young Spectators. Since then, the playwright has offered new interesting plots to the Georgian stage.

Buachidze's plays and the pressing issues raised in them, remain relevant even today. In his comedies of a sharp social nature, the writer's satire touches upon many aspects of modern life – demagogy, greed and careerism. The author created both the so-called “comedies of situation” and “comedies of character” and to some extent expanded the genre area of ​​Georgian dramaturgy. Buachidze's literary language is noteworthy. All these qualities gave his plays a wide arena and a place in the permanent repertoire of the Georgian theatre. In 1958, his play The Story of Love was staged at the Rustaveli Theatre, and Stern Daughters – at the Marjanishvili Theatre (1940; 1956); The Rose with Hundred Leaves (1935; 1952) was also staged there. There is a Vicious Dog in the Yard was staged at the Rustaveli Theatre (1953–1958), Marjanishvili Theatre (1985), the Griboyedov Russian Drama Theatre (1964) and the Batumi Ilia Chavchavadze State Drama Theatre (1957, The Story of Love was also staged there, 1956; 1958); Plato was staged at the Kutaisi Lado Meskhishvili Theatre (1974) and the Batumi Ilia Chavchavadze State Drama Theatre (1967). The Provincial Daughter was staged by the Moscow Drama Theatre in 1955. Buchaidze's following plays are also worth noting: Eight Actors (1962), Polychron Chichia (1936 – 1970) and others. His plays were translated into Russian and published in Moscow in 1965 and 1972.

He is buried in the Didube Pantheon.
