Doctor of Economic Sciences (1935), Honored Scientist of Georgia (1945), one of the founders and professors of Tbilisi State University (1918–1950), and one of the founders of the Georgian economic school.
Under his leadership, the Faculty of Social and Economic Sciences was established at TSU on the basis of the Faculty of Philosophy. He also headed the Department of Political Economy and founded and led the Department of Statistics.
Gogichaishvili’s scientific work primarily addressed the socio-economic and socio-political issues of Georgia and other regions of the South Caucasus. Gogichaishvili also made a significant contribution to Georgian folklore studies. In 1904, he inherited a rich collection of Georgian folklore samples compiled by P. Umikashvili, a portion of which he published in 1905 with an extensive preface (Folk Poems). In 1937, he published the poetic part of this collection (Folk Literature, Vol. 1).
From 1945 to 1950, he also worked at the Institute of Economics of the Georgian Academy of Sciences.
In 2008, the Georgian National Academy of Sciences established a prize in his name in the field of economics.
