Johann Gustav Gärber (d. 1734) was a German engineer and artilleryman in the Russian service.
He commanded the artillery during the capture of Baku in 1723. In 1727, he participated in the negotiations between Russia and the Ottoman Empire. In 1728, he compiled a map of the Caucasian coast of the Caspian Sea and a detailed description of this area: Information about the Peoples and Lands West of the Caspian Sea (published in German in 1728, in Russian in 1760). The work provides detailed information of a historical-ethnographic and socio-economic nature about the Caspian Sea and the Caucasus. The author also talks about Abasgoi, Kingdom of Iberia and Albania.
