Necropolis of Gomareti

Necropolis of Gomareti is an archaeological monument of the ancient period (5th–4th centuries BC) on the territory of the village of Gomareti (present-day Dmanisi Municipality).

Archaeological excavations conducted in 1962 and 1975 (D. Tushabramishvili, Ts. Davlianidze) revealed 26 stone coffins arranged in two floors. The deceased, with their limbs bent, lied on their right sides. The coffins also contained black, red and light-color painted clay vessels (pitchers, jars, pots, jugs, glasses, jugs decorated with zoomorphic images), jewelry (bronze and iron bracelets, bronze rings, silver temple rings, beads, etc.), a blue glass bulla (seal), an iron spear, and a knife.

The discovered material is typical of the early antique tombs of Kvemo Kartli. They are preserved at the S. Janashia Museum of Georgia.
