Ivane Tarba (b. March 21, 1921, Beslakhuba, present-day Ochamchire Municipality – d. January 21, 1994, Sokhumi), Abkhazian writer. He graduated from the Maxim Gorky Pedagogical Institute (present-day Abkhazian State University (1948). In 1953–1954, he was the Minister of Education of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia, in 1954–1958 – Secretary of the Abkhazian Regional Committee of the Communist Party, in 1958–1979 – Chairman of the Abkhazian Writers' Union. He published his first poem in 1937, the first collection of poems – in 1949. Other collections of poems and verses include: Ori Zghva (Two Seas) (1954), Leksebi da Poemebi (Verses and Poems) (1960), Apkhazeto Chemo (My Abkhazia) (1963), Mtidan Mtamde (From Mountain to Mountain) (1965), Leksebi (Poems) (1971), Shuadghis Gzebze (On Afternoon Roads) (1972), Simgheridan Simgheramde (From Song to Song) (1975). Tarba also wrote the novels: Tsnobili Katsi (A Famous Man) (1967) and Mze Chventan Ighvidzebs (The Sun Wakes Up with Us) (1971).
