D. Tavkhelidze 

David Tavkhelidze (b. November 7, 1910, Persati, present-day Baghdati Municipality – d. November 20, 1989, Tbilisi), scientist in the field of the theory of mechanisms and machines, full member of the Georgian Academy of Sciences (1979; Corresponding Member 1967), Doctor of Technical Sciences (1947), professor (1948), Honored Science and Technology Figure of Georgia (1962). In 1933, he graduated from the Faculty of Forestry and Engineering at Tbilisi State University, was the head of the Department of the Theory of Mechanisms and Machines of the Georgian Polytechnical Institute (present-day Georgian Technical University) (1948–1987). Tavkhelidze's main scientific works concern the research of spatial and flat joint mechanisms. In 1974, he was awarded the G. Nikoladze Prize for his work “Spatial Lever Mechanisms”. The Tavkhelidze Scholarship has been established at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the Georgian Technical University. He received state awards.
