Shota Iamanidze (b. March 15, 1937, Tbilisi – d. October 15, 1971, Tbilisi), athlete (footballer), Honored Master of Sports of the USSR (1969).
He graduated from the Georgian Polytechnical Institute (1965). He was the captain of Tbilisi “Dinamo” (1961–1966). He was the USSR Champion (1964) and third prize winner (1959, 1962, 1967), finalist of the USSR Cup (1960), second prize winner of the Spartakiad of the Peoples of the USSR (1956). He was named in the list of “33 best football players” of the USSR three times. He was a member of the USSR Olympic team (played 2 matches).
Iamanidze was distinguished by his sophisticated technique and excellent game organization skills.
He received state awards.
Iamanidze died in a car accident.
