Ibn Arabshah

Ibn Arabshah (b. 1389, Damascus – d. 1450, Cairo), Arab historian.

In 1400, he was captured by Tamerlane and exiled to Samarkand with his family. He studied Persian, Turkish and Mongolian languages.

In 1436, he settled in Koro. Here he wrote the work Aja'ib al-maqdur fi akhbar Taymur, which is written in rhymed prose. Georgia and Georgians are mentioned in the work — “the people are kind-hearted, and the country is small, but is fortified with fortresses, walls, caves and grottos, mountains, abysses, valleys, and because of this enticing nature, it is difficult for the enemy to approach it”. He describes Tamerlane's campaigns in Georgia in 1400 and 1403. The dedicated struggle of the Georgians, the story of the mediation of Shirvan-Shah Ibrahim with Tamerlane at the request of King George VII, and the peace achieved through it.
