David Ioseliani (b. June 3, 1943, Tbilisi), cardiologist, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences (2011), academician (2016), Doctor of Medical Sciences (1977), professor (1982). Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation (2002).
Ioseliani graduated from the Tbilisi State Medical University in 1966. In 1971, he started working at the Bakulev Scientific Center of Cardiovascular Surgery in various positions: junior research fellow (1972–1977), senior research fellow (1977–1982), head of the department he created (emergency and interventional cardiology since 1992) (1982–1996), from 1996 – director of the Moscow State Center for Interventional Cardioangiology (also founded by him), from 2011 (combined) – founder and head of the Department of X-ray Endovascular Diagnostics and Treatment at the Pirogov Medical University, as well as the Department of Interventional Cardioangiology at the Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University (2016). In 1988, he was awarded the USSR State Prize for the scientific development and practical implementation of modern methods of treating ischemic heart disease.
Ioseliani was the chairman of the Scientific Council of Interventional Cardioangiology of Russia in 2000–2004; Chairman of the Moscow Society of Cardioangiologists (since 2003), winner of the V.I. Burakovsky Prize (2010); Chief Cardiologist of Moscow (2000–2010); Full member of the European Society of Cardiology (2002); Editor-in-Chief of the bilingual journal “International Journal of Interventional Cardioangiology” (2002). He is the author of many scientific works (including 9 monographs, 1 textbook) and 5 inventions. He is a foreign member of the Georgian National Academy of Sciences (2017).
Ioseliani is the laureate of the State Prize of the Russian Federation in the field of science and technology (2010); Laureate of the State Prize of Moscow (2003, 2008, 2011); He was elected to the American College of Cardiology (1993), the Board of Directors of the Cuban Society of Cardiology (1980), the New York Academy (1995), etc. He has received state awards, including the Order of Honor (2003).
