Bartholom de Salignago

Bartholom de Salignago (15th century) was an Italian traveler.

In his work "Journey to Jerusalem," he provides interesting information about Georgia in the 15th century and its position in Eastern diplomatic relations. He gives details about about the lives of Georgians who live abroad, their privileges, and certain advantages granted to them by Muslims. Specifically, he notes that, unlike others, Georgians entered Jerusalem riding decorated horses and displaying their national flag and did not pay the tax imposed by the sultan for this privilege. According to him, the sultans of Egypt and the Ottoman Empire highly respected the Georgians.
